Vice President of Springfield City Council Kateri Walsh Endorses Josh Zakim for Secretary of State
June 24th, 2018
BOSTON- Vice President of the Springfield City Council, Kateri Walsh, announced today that she’s endorsing Josh Zakim in his campaign for the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State.
“I’m very excited about the bold, progressive leadership Josh would bring to the Secretary’s office,” said Walsh.
Walsh served on the Springfield City Council from 1987 to 1992 and then was reelected in 2003 and has served as Councilor at large since. Walsh is the chair of the Springfield Women’s Commision, an inaugural member of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, and the Massachusetts Director for the National Foundation for Women Legislators. Walsh also sits on the board for the Springfield Cultural District and was recently named to the Board of Directors for the Hampden County Sheriff’s Association.
“Massachusetts needs a leader in the Secretary of State’s office who will bring fresh ideas to combatting our State’s plummeting voter turnout rate,” Walsh added, “I believe Josh’s proposals for automatic voter registration, expanded early voting, and an easier absentee voting process will surely make a big difference in getting more people out to vote.”
“I am humbled to receive Kateri’s endorsement,” Zakim said. “Kateri has been a tireless advocate for the people of Springfield, making sure their voices are heard in government. I’m looking forward to working with her to make sure all Massachusetts residents can have that kind of representation in their government.”
“The Secretary of State has the tremendous responsibility of making sure that people are able to exercise their right to shape their own government,” Zakim concluded, “I’m determined to innovate by championing new policies that can ensure the people of Massachusetts have better access to voting and thereby better access to government.”
