Alderman Jennifer Lemmerman Endorses Josh Zakim for Secretary of State

July 9th, 2018

BOSTON—Alderman Jennifer Lemmerman, who represents Melrose’s 2nd Ward, today announced that she is endorsing Josh Zakim in his campaign for the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State.

“Massachusetts desperately needs to improve our citizens’ access to voting,” said Lemmerman. “In supporting weekend election dates, the expansion of early voting, and same-day voter registration, Josh has proven that he’s the advocate this state needs to reverse the disturbing trend of plummeting voter participation.”

Lemmerman, an Associate Director of External Affairs at Community Catalyst, a healthcare consumer advocacy group, has served as an alderman of Melrose since 2014. During her tenure, Lemmerman has led the board as both the chair of the Appropriations Committee and the vice-chair of the Health, Education, and Welfare Committee.

“I have worked throughout my career to help expand access to healthcare,” added Lemmerman. “I know the vast majority of people in this state support these efforts. The way that support gets transformed into policy is through voting. Therefore, we must do everything we can to ensure people are able to exercise their right to vote.”

“I am extremely proud to have Alderman Lemmerman in our corner as we fight to make Massachusetts a more participatory democracy,” said Zakim. “I look forward to working with Jennifer on implementing measures to make sure that everyone is able to access their right to vote.

“The Secretary of State’s office is vital to every single person in Massachusetts, even if they don’t realize it,” Zakim added. “As the top election official in the state, it’s the Secretary’s job to ensure our government is accessible to its citizens. I will work every single day to lead Massachusetts towards a more participatory, more representative democracy. ”
