State Representative Adrian Madaro endorses Josh Zakim for Secretary of State

June 28th, 2018

BOSTON—Massachusetts State Representative Adrian Madaro (D-East Boston) today announced that he is endorsing Josh Zakim in his campaign for the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State.

“The Secretary of State’s office needs a new, progressive voice to help bring it into the modern era, and I believe that Josh will do just that,” Madaro said. “His emphasis on increasing voter turnout and accessibility to government will allow all people to have their voices heard.”

Zakim’s campaign has focused on proposals like Election Day Registration, further expanding early voting and scheduling statewide elections on weekends. As a member of the Boston City Council, Zakim has advocated for the rights of immigrants, including authoring the Boston Trust Act.

Madaro, a lifelong resident of East Boston, was elected to the House of Representatives in 2015. A member of the Committee on Ways and Means, he has also worked on issues ranging from transportation to telecommunications to marijuana policy. He formerly served as Chief of Staff to Representative Carlo Basile.

“I am honored to receive Adrian’s endorsement,” said Zakim. “His dedication to public service and encouraging community involvement echo what we’re talking about in my campaign. I look forward to working with Adrian to learn about innovative ideas to help all the residents of the Commonwealth.

“The Secretary of State’s office is vital to every single person in Massachusetts, even if they don’t realize it,” Zakim added. “From eligible voters to business owners to investors to residents who simply want to know what is happening with their tax dollars, this is their office, and I will be fighting in their corner every day.”
