State Rep. John Scibak endorses Josh Zakim for Secretary of State

June 21, 2018

BOSTON–– State Rep. John Scibak, who represents Easthampton, Granby, Hadley, and South Hadley, today announced that he is endorsing Josh Zakim in his campaign for Secretary of State.

“Josh’s platform is exactly what Massachusetts needs right now,” said Scibak, “in order to improve access to education and transportation, people need to vote for a government that can deliver those services. Proposals like Automatic Voter Registration and expanded Early Voting will increase turnout and facilitate better access to government for everyone.”

Scibak was first elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 2002 and has served continuously since then.  Scibak serves as the House Chair on the Joint Committee on Public Service, the Joint Committee of Labor and Workforce Development, and the Joint Committee on Higher Education. Scibak previously was the Chair of the Joint Committees on Public Service and Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure.

“Massachusetts needs leaders who are willing to take bold steps to make government more accessible for the people living here,” Scibak said. “I’m confident that Josh will be that kind of leader, and will help reverse the troubling trend of declining voter turnout in Massachusetts.”

“I’m honored to have earned  the Representative’s endorsement,” Zakim said, “he’s been leader in the Democratic party and on Beacon Hill for the past fifteen years. I look forward to working with Representative Scibak and drawing on his experience to improve voter turnout and transparency in government.”

“The Secretary of State must be a proactive, progressive leader willing to fight to improve access to government,” Zakim added, “I will fight every day to ensure people can exercise their right to vote and then clearly see how the officials elected with those votes are doing their job.”
